Can NHS Hospitals do more with less?
The Nuffield Trust has produced a report examining the efficieny of NHS Hospitals. Based on UK and international experience, Can NHS Hospitals do more for less? seeks to understand the factors that determine efficiency within hospitals and how acute trusts can best make cost savings by improving efficiency.
An accompanying policy analysis, by Dr Judith Smith and Dr Jennifer Dixon of the Nuffield Trust, explores the implications of the report findings for policy and practice in the context of the Government's NHS reforms.
The overriding message of the policy analysis is that although much is known about how to increase efficiency, there continues to be significant variation in the performance of NHS hospitals in England, and much of this variation drives levels of (in)efficiency.
