Research Structures
- NHS Leicestershire County and Rutland has now formed a cluster with NHS Leicester City (LLR Cluster) These two organisations are legally separate bodies which share some senior management and staff functions in the interests of greater quality, productivity and cost-effectiveness.
- NHS LCR is a Large Primary Care Trust – commissions healthcare for the 677,900 people living in Leicestershire county and Rutland. Full organisational structure and details can be seen here
- Priority areas of healthcare – diabetes care , smoking prevention, cardiovascular disease, cancer, improving outcomes for the elderly, mental health, end of life care and patient experience.
- Hosts and performs a wide array of local, regional and national research and evaluation studies for academic and industrial partners in these priority areas.
- Delivering on the QIPP agenda is a priority for NHS LCR; research/service evaluation studies to improve quality and productivity are important in achieving this.
- NHS LCR research and evaluation studies are currently underway in areas including: smoking prevention, teenage pregnancy, obesity, cancer, mental health, end of life care, child health, Parkinson’s disease, stroke, COPD, and heart failure

CLAHRC is currently reviewing whether to support further NHS LCR research/evaluation studies in areas such as mental health, COPD Telehealth, community health, and public health

Next Steps
Aim – within the next 3 years collaborative and meaningful research and evaluation studies will form the cornerstone of healthcare decision making in Leicestershire County and Rutland and benefit both patients and healthcare providers.
