The National Institute for Health Research Collaboration for Leadership in Applied Health Research and Care - Leicestershire, Northamptonshire and Rutland (NIHR CLAHRC for LNR)
The United Kingdom is one of the leading nations in health research in the world, with significant achievements in the field including 11 Nobel prizes for medicine. The outcomes of this research have the ability to transform the way healthcare is delivered, improve patient outcomes and be more cost effective. However, the NHS needs to make better use of this research in its day to day practice.
The NIHR CLAHRC for LNR aims to overcome the barriers to implementing research by bringing together all the local NHS Trusts in a unique partnership with the University of Leicester. So far it has:
- Recruited more than 1000 people to studies
- Supported the training of over 3500 people in research and associated activities
- Been awarded in excess of £5.5m of external research funding
- Published 150 papers in peer reviewed journals
It is part of a five year programme to ensure that the lessons learnt from research studies are rapidly and effectively put into practice.
